SAMARITAN AUDIOBOOK NETS A 5 STAR REVIEW!

BIG THANKS to author Darrell Grizzle for his kind words and 5-STAR Goodreads review of the SAMARITAN audiobook written by Bobby Nash and narrated by Dan St. Andre. Read it HERE.

"Science fiction turns into horror when a rescue mission in space turns up a monstrous terror in a very unexpected form. Another great novella from a master of pulp fiction, Bobby Nash. The Audible version is read by Dan St Andre, whose Southern accent somehow works perfectly for this adventure in outer space."

Learn more about SAMARITAN here.
Available in ebook and audio from BEN Books.

SAMARITAN II is coming soon.

BOBBY TALKS PULP ON THRILLERCAST

Smells like pulp to me.
I was thrilled (pun intended) to sit in with David Wood and Alan Baxter on the latest episode of the ThrillerCast- The Podcast for Readers and Writers of Thrillers podcast. We talked about writing in general and also discuss the New Pulp book market. We also discuss the definitions of pulp and New Pulp as well as what it takes to write a pulp yarn.

You can listen now at http://thrillerpodcast.blogspot.com/2013/03/episode-66-new-pulp-with-bobby-nash.html

ThrillerCast Episode 66- New Pulp with Bobby Nash

In this episode, David and Alan discuss "New Pulp" with Bobby Nash. We also take Random House to the woodshed for their new digital-first publishing contracts. More important, however, is the fact that Al finally bought a decent microphone. Woo hoo!

Our guest is author Bobby Nash.

What is the current state of "New Pulp?" Is it still alive and well, or is it on the decline?

What is New Pulp? Can it be defined? What are the common characteristics?

Who is writing or publishing New Pulp right now?

Who are some of the "classic" pulp writers?

WHAT LURKS BEYOND THE FRONTIER?

January is almost halfway over? How did that happen so fast?

The finishing touches were completed on Bobby Nash's Frontier today. That means the book should be available in paperback and ebook formats within a few days, but we wanted to share some details early, hopefully to whet your whistle for the release.

About Frontier:
Frontier collects 9 sci fi short stories from Bobby Nash, author of Earthstrike Agenda, Evil Ways, and Deadly Games! Some of the rare tales presented in Frontier are reprints and others are in print there for the first time. The stories that make up Frontier happen on Earth, on alien planets, and in the deepest recesses of space. There’s action, adventure, horror, and even a little romance.

Stories included in Frontier:

SAMARITAN
In deepest space, a research vessel rescues a survivor who asks to be returned home. The catch: her planet lies at the center of a black hole. [Note: Samaritan is also available as a stand-alone ebook novella]

DREAMWEAVER
Nathanial “Doc” Dresden wakes up in space, free floating above the moon. But he is not alone. The first prose story featuring Doc Dresden: The Immortal.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE MONSTERS GONE?
Doc Dresden: The Immortal returns. Nathanial “Doc” Dresden and his team investigate bizarre happenings.

MIDWAY
A meteor storm damages Midway Station, a free-floating museum storage facility and frees an ancient creature from its icy tomb to terrorize the repair crew on board to make repairs.

JUST ANOTHER SATURDAY ON OUTPOST 9
When war breaks out between neighboring worlds, the Outpost 9 space station is caught in the crossfire. Dr. Erin Moonshadow tries to save lives as chaos reigns around her.

THE DROP
War. Ground troops are dispatched. Dropped from their starship, the troop transport is attacked and one of the soldiers is lost. Then things get strange.

NIGHTMARE IN AMBER
Are a young man’s dreams of an interstellar war a product of his imagination or a prophecy of things to come?

THE GARDEN
A survey crew discovers a veritable Garden of Eden at the far edge of the galaxy. Is this paradise? Or is there a serpent in hiding in this garden, waiting to strike? The Garden is a comic book story by Bobby Nash with art by Jeff Austin and Rusty Gilligan.

A JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY
This one is really a rare find. It was a one-page story that doubled as an advertisement for a convention where I was a guest and ran in their mailer booklet and in the convention’s program book.

Illustrations in Frontier are by Bobby Nash and Jeff Austin.

--
From Frontier author, Bobby Nash:
Publishing Frontier has been on my to do list for some time, but was constantly being pushed to the back burner as other projects and deadlines move to the foreground. Some of the stories included in the book were characters I had hoped to spin into more adventures, like Doc Dresden, who appeared in a few comic book stories I may have to dig up and reprint soon. Just Another Saturday on Outpost 9 and The Drop were also part of a shared universe, seeing events happening from different perspectives. There have been times when I’ve thought about returning to those respective universes, and I may still. Stranger things have certainly happened.

Others are one offs or bits and pieces I had lying around while others are connected in weird ways. The plot for Midway, for instance, was originally one I considered as a sequel to Samaritan, but then decided not to do. I felt that Samaritan should stand on its own and that a sequel wasn’t really warranted, but it was still a tempting idea so when a call came out for a [SPOILER] anthology, I used that plot. I put that spoiler there so as not to spoil a reveal in the story. Ain’t I a tease? Sadly, the anthology’s editor passed on Midway, but I’m excited to see it finally getting out to the masses.

Speaking of Midway, look for an announcement regarding this story real soon. It’s pretty cool stuff, I think.

One of the most fun aspects of this particular project was creating the covers for each story. I had a lot more fun creating those than I expected, so much so that I hope to do more. A lot of the art used in the covers was older pieces I had laying around from old projects Jeff Austin and I started together that, for one reason or another, were never completed. I think some of them came out quite nice. I hope you like them as well.

Look for an official press release for FRONTIER in a few days.

I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts on the new release.

Now, I guess I’d better get back to writing the Evil Intent novel.

RALPH'S RANTS REVIEWS SAMARITAN

BEN Books Author Bobby Nash's ebook novella, Samaritan was reviewed by Ralph's Rants. You should check out what he has to say about it here or read it below.

Samaritan- A review (posted with permission of the reviewer)

Samaritan by Bobby Nash is a novella set in the future where man is exploring space aboard prospector ships. The Aquarius is one such ship. The Aquarius has been out in deep space for eight long years and is just now returning to Earth. In all that time they have not encountered another being of any species. That is about to change.

When the ship comes upon a seeming graveyard of spaceships and spaceship parts the crew is understandably curious and excited. For the first time they have evidence of life on other worlds. Sadly, as they are about to find out, it’s better off not answering certain questions, at least not at this time.

This is a VERY well written space adventure, and within its forty plus pages an entire story is told, and nothing is left wanting. I really liked this one a lot, even more than I expected too. It held my interest and the pace which started out slow built to a frenetic crescendo at the tales end. This is as much a horror story as it is Sci-fi, in the vein of ‘Alien’.

But therein lies the problem with this tale, to me at least. The end, while excellently and professionally written, felt a little too expected for me. The big surprise was pretty much what I expected to happen.

But do NOT let that deter you from reading this story. It honestly is one of the best things I’ve read in a long time. There’s very little sci-fi out there that I like. Most of it reads like bad Star Trek or Star Wars. Or it strives far too hard to be neither. This just read like a good sci-fi story. I’ve been lucky recently and read three good sci-fi stories in a row, including this one. You can’t go wrong here. Bobby’s characters are real and you don’t like all of them, which to me is the sign of a good writer, and a good story.

Give Samaritan a whirl. It’s a short but very engrossing story. Far better than most novella’s I’ve read recently.

#####

Thanks for the kind words, Ralph. I'm glad you enjoyed Samaritan.
Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to write. It is appreciated.

About SAMARITAN (an ebook novella by Bobby Nash):

Deep space.

The science ship Aquarius, under the command of Captain Jeremiah Rains has finally reached the end of its exploratory mission to the depths of uncharted space and is returning home to Earth.

Captain Rains and his skeleton military crew are tired and bored from the lack of adventure they expected to find out in the great beyond. The scientists, however, are extremely happy with their many discoveries.

When the ship comes upon the wreckage of a destroyed space vessel, the crew is surprised to find one survivor; a woman, quite possibly the most beautiful woman any of them have ever seen. Her name is Lari and all she wants is someone, some Good Samaritan, to take her home.

The catch is that her planet is located at the center of a black hole.
